You may have heard the expression, "Complacency kills." Well, growth gives life. Pursuing improvement, learning how to be comfortable with the uncomfortable, increasing your knowledge and capacity, these are all activities that lead to constant improvement.
Great facilities managers are never content with business as usual. If they don't understand something, they learn. If a process is broken, they work to fix it. When everything is running smoothly, they educate themselves so they can find ways to make their programs even better.
Growth is a cycle. People who naturally pursue growth understand this cycle and leverage it.
Step 1. Evaluate your actions. Determine what is working and what is not working.
Step 2. Lean into what is working. Throw out what isn't working.
Step 3. Try something new, and go back to step 1.
In this process, step 3 is the most important. Our world changes quickly. No one gets ahead by keeping things the same. Complacency kills.
